Cesar Reyes, pianista.

Originario de la ciudad de Uruapan Michoacán, realizo sus estudios musicales en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música donde es egresado de la carrera de Concertista de Piano y en el Centro Nacional de las Artes bajo la dirección de los maestros Raúl de la Mora, Horacio Franco y Mario Lavista.

Clases maestras en las que ha participado incluyen a artistas de la talla de Istvan Nadas, Kurt Redel, Jorge Federico Osorio, Gyorgy Sandor, Jorg Demus, y como oyente en los cursos de Daniel Barenboim, Alicia de Larrocha y Gustav Leonhart.

Se ha presentado en los principales foros del país como la Sala Manuel M. Ponce del Palacio de Bellas Artes, Auditorio Blas Galindo del Centro Nacional de las Artes, Teatro Ocampo de Morelia Michoacán, en los estados de Jalisco, Veracruz, Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Puebla y Tlaxcala; pero también en espacios al aire libre, iglesias de comunidades indígenas, colonias populares y barrios de la ciudad de Uruapan.

Fue ganador por 2 años consecutivos del Primer Lugar en los concursos de interpretación y ejecución del Conservatorio, del 2 lugar en el Concurso Nacional Edvard Grieg en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua y en 1998 es becario del FONCA en el programa de Ejecutantes.

Promotor cultural independiente, desde los 16 años de edad, ha organizado recitales invitando a jóvenes músicos, además de realizar la Gira Artística “La Música de Nuestro Siglo” junto con la percusionista Maribel Pedraza, con el patrocinio del Programa de Apoyo a Proyectos y Coinversiones del FONCA, introduciendo con gran éxito a públicos que no habían estado en contacto antes con música del repertorio contemporáneo.

Gracias al apoyo del Programa de Apoyo a la Docencia y la Investigación (PADID) del CENART y de la Beca Carmen Valles, comenzó sus estudios en el extranjero en el 2001.

Bajo la dirección del reconocido pedagogo Germán Diez, quien fuera discípulo y asistente del legendario pianista Claudio Arrau, desarrolló estudios de Maestría en Música en el Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music of the City University of New York gracias al apoyo del FONCA y del INBA, además de ser el pianista principal del ensamble ConTempo que dirige la compositora Tania León, con quien realiza estudios de interpretación de música contemporánea.


En la ciudad de Nueva York se ha presentado en el Levenson Hall, Elebash Recital Hall del Graduate Center of CUNY (interpretando música de compositores americanos y mexicanos), en Columbia University, así como en el Renee Weiler Concert Hall de la Greenwich House Music School, donde participo dentro de las actividades del Centenario del Nacimiento de Claudio Arrau, interpretando Funerales de Franz Liszt en la clase maestra de clausura del festival bajo la dirección del pianista Goodwin Sammel. Ha ofrecido conferencias sobre música mexicana para piano en Suiza y los Estados Unidos. Actualmente es becario del Sistema Estatal de Creadores de Michoacán.

Pianist Angelina Tallaj was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic where she displayed a natural talent at an early age, performing extensively and winning many awards and competitions. Since moving to Brooklyn, Ms. Tallaj, who earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Brooklyn College, has studied with Michael Rogers, Agustin Anievas, and German Diez. Recently concerto performances include the Schumann Concerto with the Kingsborough Symphony Orchestra, the Mendelssohn Concerto with the Dominican Republic’s National Symphony Orchestra, and the Grieg Concerto throughout Puerto Rico and with the orchestra Celebrate at Lincoln Center of New York. Further performance venues include Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. In addition to the traditional piano repertoire, she enjoys performing the music of Latin America and performs recitals and lecture-recitals devoted to this music. Ms. Tallaj is also active as an accompanist and has recorded for Albany Records in this capacity. She is currently on the faculty of the Third Street Music Settlement and is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology at the City University Graduate Center where she is the recipient of the prestigious MAGNET fellowship. As an ethnomusicologist, Ms. Tallaj has presented her research at many conferences on Dominican and Latin American music.

Cesar Reyes

Born in Michoacán, Mexico, Cesar Reyes graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City as a Concert Pianist under the direction of Mexican artists Raul de la Mora, Horacio Franco and Mario Lavista.

He was winner of the Conservatory's most important performance competitions for three consecutive years, receiving the Second Prize in the National "Edvard Grieg" Piano Competition and the special Prize for the best performance of Grieg music. He has not only appeared in the main concert halls of his country such as the "Sala Manuel M. Ponce" of the Fine Art Palace and Auditorium Blas Galindo of the National Center of the Arts, but also in outdoor spaces and community churches in indigenous villages and districts of his home state.

An advocate of contemporary music, he along with percussionist Maribel Pedraza organized the Artistic Tour "the Music of Our Century" in 2001, under the sponsorship of the Mexican Endowment for the Arts (FONCA), introducing this repertoire with great success to people whom had no prior contact with the contemporary classical repertoire.

In 2001 he came to the United States to study under the direction of recognized Professor Germán Diez, disciple and assistant of legendary pianist Claudio Arrau. He earned a Masters Degree in Music at the Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music of the City University of New York with the support of the Mexican Government cultural institutions (INBA and FONCA). In the city of New York, he has appeared in the Levenson Hall (Brooklyn College), Elebash Recital Hall (CUNY Graduate Center), and Columbia University. He has premiered music of American and Mexican composers.

In 2003 he organized the Centennial celebration of the Arrau's Birth in Mexico's National Center of Arts given lectures and masterclasses about Arrau's technique and artistic legacy.
